Dr Oscar Picardo, from El Salvador

In view of the emergency due to the COVID-19, Dr Oscar Picardo and his team of scientists, from the Nanotechnology Laboratory at the “Francisco Gavidia University”, successfully designed and created a mechanical BVM unit prototype, which could support intensive care units in dire need of artificial ventilators, while reducing the need of essential staff that would normally handle manual ventilators. The unit has a motor and multiple parts printed on a 3D printer, and meets all international and medical standards. Their project raised the interest of several companies to start mass-production as soon as possible.
