Coronavirus Global Response International Pledging Event - Jacinda Ardern, Prime Minister of New Zealand

Tēnā koutou katoa. Warm greetings from Aotearoa – New Zealand.

I’m pleased to announce that New Zealand is joining the ACT Accelerator coalition for the pledge of NZ$37 million.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had far-reaching and devastating impacts on the entire world.

To beat it, we need international collaboration and partnership more than ever.

Thank you to the European Union for bringing us together for this purpose.

And joining the ACT Accelerator, New Zealand will support both the development and the distribution of a COVID-19 vaccine.

We will boost our domestic research capacity and work collaboratively with scientists around the world.

This direct contribution to the ACT Accelerator is in addition to the NZ$29 million New Zealand has already committed to other research and innovation in response to COVID-19.

This is a time for us to come together to achieve a global solution.

As we say in New Zealand: He waka eke noa, we are all in this together.

Noho ora mai. Stay safe and stay well.
