At 97 years old, Dr Maria Isabel Rodriguez is still very active and is one the most prominent doctors and scholars in El Salvador. She was the first and only woman to hold the position of Dean at her alma mater, the University of El Salvador. She has worked extensively with the WHO and PAHO in several Latin American countries and served as the Salvadoran Minister of Health between 2009 and 2014. She is the recipient of numerous academic accolades.
